We went out on the streets to listen to people, and the hardships of living in an RV might surprise you. While it might be easier than living in a tent, there are still significant hardships like:- Overcrowded RV space- Taking care of companion animals- The hardship of getting out of a tentLiving in a tent has its own difficulties- The weather in Los Angeles has been brutal over the last week- It's freezing and people have little cover to keep themselves warm- All they have is their tent to keep themselves protectedYou can read more about these hardships in the carousel below. As hopeless as it sounds, there are solutions. The Giving Spirit Youth Council passed out winter survival kits to people on the streets recently. These kits included tarps and blankets as well as food and socks.Over the last week, I've had the opportunity to share the stories that stuck with me over time. The hardships that keep people on the streets and suffering.Hopefully, this pushes you to do more for your neighbors living on the streets.Soon, the Youth Council will launch its semester initiative regarding supporting domestic violence victims. You can make a difference with a donation there.Thank you so much to Tom Bagamane, Angela Liu, and the whole Giving Spirit leadership team for their leadership and commitment to making this outreach possible. We couldn't have done it without you.#theyareus #housingcrisis #socialjustice #youthleadership

Ending poverty and achieving racial justice means Reimagining Justice. Together. Like you, our founder, Sargent “Sarge” Shriver, knew that ending poverty requires “justice, opportunity, dignity, and mutual respect” to be woven into the very fabric of American society. As we RRR, 2023 LP Fellows Anna Parisi and M. Silin encourage us to think deeply about how we can honor the land we’re on and connect with the communities we’re in. How can we practice abundance and preservation through land stewardship and community care? To investigate this, we must turn to our history of honoring, beautifying, and protecting the land we occupy; a history that runs deep across Black and Brown communities in Bed-Stuy.Join us as we open up land. zine #1: The Anti-Capitalist Approach to A Self-Sufficient Bed-Stuy: Lenape Stewardship As A Model for Black and Brown People, created by Anna Parisi and M. Silin:“Today, abundance and communal care in Bed-Stuy might look like fully stocked community fridges, well-resourced mutual aid organizations, food pantries, etc., which feed entire families and communities. The understanding and spirit of abundance is evident in these public spaces – there is enough for everyone if we share resources and believe in solidarity over charity, abundance over capitalism.”Think & Reflect: Bed-Stuy can be self-sufficient. How?

Six months after Maui's deadly wildfires, community leaders are helping the more than 5,000 still displaced and working to rebuild a stronger Maui that puts its people before tourists.Tides Foundation has granted almost $800,000 to Maui's disaster relief efforts, with most funding coming from Tides' WE LEAD fund, which supports women-led environmental justice, and Tides' Crisis Response Fund, which supports communities disproportionately impacted by disasters as a result of systemic racism and inequality.Maui still needs support. The dynamic nature of development and change emphasizes that growth isn’t merely about making incremental improvements but involves a fundamental evolution in thinking and approach. Each stage of progress builds on the knowledge and resources available at the time, suggesting that past efforts, even if they seem limited in hindsight, were valuable in shaping the current trajectory. This perspective encourages a recognition of the complexity of development processes. It reminds us that as we gain new insights and tools, our ability to address challenges expands. It’s a call to embrace change as a necessary and often transformative part of any journey.
